Item #1006
Early Cold Painted Bronze Flower Basket Chandelier (pair available) $6950.00 each We have two of these MUSEUM QUALITY FIXTURES available! This chandelier dates from the late 1800s, early 1900s and is in excellent original condition. The quality and detail throughout is second to none. The dark brown painted basket is made from cast bronze with applied leaves and flowers. It's lined with bent caramel slag glass that glows a warm amber when lit, which creates a lovely silhouette under the bronze. The fixture is adorned with painted flowers, leaves and vines that are also bronze and were bent and applied by hand. This fixture has not been touched and still has a good layer of grime on it. I'm sure if you wanted to clean it up the original paint would be even more vibrant. All the original paint is in excellent condition with only a minor chip here or there...not noticeable at all. The basket is suspended by a pair of "rope" shaped brass tubes that attach to the ceiling cap. The total drop is about 37" with about a 14" diameter. The basket itself measures about 14" diameter by 10" top to bottom. These fixtures were found in the attic of a Boston area estate and look to have been stored for fifty years or more. This is made from bronze...NOT pot metal or cast iron! The wiring is original and working well...we will be happy to rewire it for the new owner if they would like us to at no extra charge. Chandeliers like this are extremely rare...to find one in this condition would be a stroke of luck but to find a matching pair is next to impossible. This is the type of chandelier rooms are built around! A great example of early American decorative art history. More photos available upon request. Back to Fixture Collection |
