Item #8005
RARE Pair of Signed HANDEL Arts & Crafts Wall Sconces $2995.00 This is an extremely rare pair of signed HANDEL leaded glass sconces that are made from bronze and date from the early 1920s. These sconces have a great arts & crafts / mission style to them with their leaded glass panel lantern shades. The shades are in excellent condition with no cracks, hairlines or repairs. The bent glass is frosted on the interior with a "chipped ice" texture on the exterior and has a very slight light blue hue to it. The bronze back plates have a nice art nouveau style to them and a rich brown patina. These sconces were mounted on the outside of a home and someone painted them black over the years. When we received them we proceeded to strip the paint off as conservatively as possible. As you can see from the photos they still have a great patina despite having been stripped of this black paint. Naturally they are slightly weathered from being mounted outdoors for eighty years or so but in remarkable condition considering. Handel is well known for primarily manufacturing table lamps which are very much sought after by collectors. Architectural lighting by HANDEL is far less common than the table lamps they produced making these a very rare find. Each shade measures about 13" top to bottom and about 5 1/2" in diameter. They will protrude from the wall about 9 1/4". Each back plate is about 6 1/8" tall by 4 3/8" across. Both sconces are properly signed and guaranteed to be authentic. Not just great pieces of period lighting but a sound investment that will grow in value over the years. Truly great pieces of American decorative art history that can be enjoyed in the home. Please feel free to ask for more details and photos of these great sconces. Back to Collection |
